"A well run and organised after school soccer coaching program. All the kids were having a good time whilst learning new skills. They also had the added excitement in the first week of meeting a Gold Coast United player. Thanks Viva Soccer – you’re welcome at our school anytime!" Chris McMillan, Principal, Coomera State School

The programs at Viva Soccer are about much more than teaching soccer skills to children. They get kids active and promote a healthy lifestyle, which is becoming more important with modern-day living becoming more sedentary than it has ever been. Reports about increases in obesity among children continue to dominate the media – and the shame of it is that it’s a problem that is so easily corrected!

These days, entertainment for children has a much greater focus on indoor activities such as video games, and television channels solely dedicated to kids don’t help. Combine this with busier lifestyles and the fact that it’s often financially necessary for both parents to work full-time, and it can be difficult to ensure children are taking part in regular physical activity, but it’s of such vital importance it should be high on any parent’s priority list.

As a Viva Soccer ambassador, I’m passionate about getting children off to an active and healthy start to life. By making the soccer training for kids as enjoyable as possible, children should come away with a positive experience and a strong desire to continue playing sport.

The programs are structured to make it easy for busy parents to get their children involved in the sessions. Soccer training for kids takes place before and after school and is easy to book online.

Viva Soccer also runs soccer camps during the school holidays, including a residential camp for 11-15 year olds in July.

There is even a Tots Program for 3-5 year olds, which runs at various childcare centres. All the information is available on this website. There’s no better time than now to get your youngsters involved in sport.

Yours in Soccer

Craig Moore, Viva Soccer Ambassador

If you’re like most parents and believe positive reinforcement is vital when it comes to building a child’s self-esteem, then you share my view and the view of all Viva Soccer coaches.

Kids need regular encouragement to build their confidence and keep them interested in any activity. I’ve seen many cases where kids who start out enthusiastic and excited about playing sport lose interest when there is a negative attitude towards their involvement or to their performance in a particular sport.

The soccer drills for kids that we run are designed to support and encourage them. If we’re able to get a young child loving soccer at an early age, there’s a good chance they’ll have a long, active involvement in the sport.

I personally endorse all the soccer drills for kids that we run. All our drills have been carefully devised to teach kids in a thorough, engaging and fun manner – the same way I developed my soccer skills.

On top of this, children learn the values of respect and fairness. Coaches are always on hand to ensure children play in a fair manner. There is no tolerance for excessively vigorous tackles, and aggressive attitudes and bad language are also unacceptable.

I believe in a big picture approach to soccer, as do our coaches. For soccer to flourish in this country, it needs to be grounded in strong ethics and integrity. The image of the game is vital to its popularity and at Viva Soccer, we want to produce kids that are going to enhance soccer’s reputation and help to grow the sport in Australia.

Our coaches have regular training sessions to ensure that they are up to date with our coaching techniques. The latest session was held yesterday at Runaway Bay Sport and Leadership Excellence Centre and is a great way for the coaches to share their experiences and new ideas with each other to keep the sessions that we run as interactive and fun as possible.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our programs soon.

Yours in Soccer

Craig Moore

It’s been a busy week with the launch of our new zone in Brisbane Outer South. The 3-5 year olds enjoyed themselves on the Viva inflatable Arena and we had press coverage for the event. Craig has also been giving lots of interviews and you can view one of them using this link.

Some of our school programs and child care centre programs started this week too with the remainder starting next week – you can check out the full details online and make a booking and pay online too. Any queries, you can either call the coach – their details are always on the program page – or call Caroline on 1300 870970.

We’re also asking for expressions of interest for a new residential camp at Tallebudgera in the school holidays in July. This will be a 3 day, 2 night camp with all activities, accommodation and food included. Not only will there be soccer but also other activities such as circus tricks which will be fully supervised with qualified instructors. Full details will be posted on our website in the near future.

Our coaches meeting takes place on Sunday to ensure that our coaches are fully up to date with our programs and what is expected of them. We do listen to your feedback and are always looking at ways of improving what we are doing.

Well Easter seems to have flown by but Queensland lived up to its Sunshine State title – what fantastic weather we had. Not so good now but the Easter weekend was lovely!

We completed our Holiday Camp at Coomera Anglican College and Holiday Fun program at Coomera Soccer Club and photos of this can be seen on our Facebook page. Please remember to ‘like us’ as much as you can. If you’ve got any photos to send in, we’d be happy to put them on there.

We’re officially launching our new Zone for 3-5 year olds in Brisbane Outer South this Sunday (15 April) from 10am to 1.30pm at Cornubia Park Indoor Sports Centre, 146 Bryants Road, Shailer Park. Come along and meet Craig Moore and be in with a chance of winning 1 of 10 Nike soccer shirts in our free prize draw. The 3-5 year olds will be able to have a go in our Viva Inflatable Arena and to join in some fun games set up by our coaches.

Our congratulations go to two of our coaches – Jamie Rogers and Dean Cooper – for completing their FFA C Licence. A great achievement and I’m sure that they will bring their new found skills to the Viva Soccer programs in Term 2 and beyond.

And talking of Term 2, this will be on us next week and we have all our programs kicking off again – some as soon as Monday. You can view all of these on our website by selecting the category you’re interested in on the right hand side of the page and then click on the State that you want. If you need assistance in booking your child on or have a question, please call Caroline in the office on 1300 870 970.

It doesn’t seem like 5 minutes since Christmas was here but we’re now nearly at Easter and Term 1 is well and truly over.

Thanks to all those that booked onto our programs in Term 1 and the holiday programs. We hope that you enjoyed the program and we’re sure to be back at a venue near you soon. Our programs are continuing in Term 2 at several different locations. We also have a new Franchisee on board ready to go for Term 2 so good luck to Hayley Stagg for the official launch on Sunday 15 April.

You can still book for our holiday programs which are taking place in Coomera this week and next week. Alternatively, there is holiday fun for 3 hours at Junction Park State School, 50 Waldheim Stree, Annerley from 9am to 12 noon on Tuesday 10 April.

We’re then looking forward to our programs in Term 2. You can book and pay online for all programs or call 1300 870 970 for assistance.

Coach Jamie from Gold Coast South is looking to run a residential camp in the June/July school holidays at Tallebudgera for 4 days/3 nights. We are looking for expressions of interest from people who may be interested. This isn’t an obligation to book but gives us an idea of how many would want to take part. There will be other activities besides soccer and all meals and accommodation would be included. Please call 1300 870 970 to register your interest or email sales@vivasoccer.com.au

Wishing all our customers a very Happy Easter – we hope you enjoy the break!

The years 3-5 are a crucial time for kids to develop motor skills. By age 3, most children have long-mastered walking and only seem to want to move at one pace – as fast as they can! This is also the age where kids get curious about everything. Whatever they come across, they want to know how it functions; wherever they go, they want to explore.

Which brings me to our soccer clinics: these teach basic soccer skills, and naturally result in the wider benefit of developing children’s motor skills. Soccer is a sport that relies on eye to foot co-ordination, something all young kids are trying to master.

By teaching kids to run with a ball at their feet, they naturally learn to run in a balanced and co-ordinated manner, which can limit the nasty falls and accidents that toddlers and young children are invariably prone to. But while soccer is played predominately with the feet, it does require the use of every part of the body, even hands – particularly as a goalkeeper, but also for throw-ins.

Soccer for kids can be extremely beneficial to developing a young child’s motor skills. Teaching a child to control a soccer ball is an ideal way to help them co-ordinate their movements and improve reflexes. For example, when passing a ball, the non-kicking foot is just as important as the kicking foot, because it determines where the ball will travel once it’s kicked. So learning how to use both legs to execute one action can help children improve balance and become comfortable using both limbs.

It’s all done in a fun and safe environment; so the kids won’t even realise how much they are learning!

At Viva Soccer, our clinics have an emphasis on fun and education, not winning. We think that kids shouldn’t feel pressured to win at all costs. Not only can it take the enjoyment out of soccer, it can also limit your child’s development. We like to make sure children can develop their skills in a fun and encouraging environment.

Kids’ soccer should not involve overbearing coaches and demanding parents. That only has the counter effect of turning kids away from the game. The game at this stage should involve adults who are supportive and encouraging, not focused squarely on the final score line.

With all kids given an equal amount of attention at Viva Soccer, they all can have an opportunity to flourish. So when they finally do get to play competitive soccer, they will be well equipped and should enjoy the game.

Soccer drills are tailored to suit kids’ ages and skill level. At ages 3-5, coaches teach children the absolute basics of the sport, such as passing, controlling the ball and dribbling. It doesn’t matter if your child has never played soccer before, Viva Soccer will give your child a basic set of skills which they can build on for as long as they continue in their involvement in soccer.

The clinics suit children who have ambitions to represent their country as well as children who just want to have a bit of fun with their friends. And the coaches have a minimum FFA licence and have undergone the required working with children checks, so your child is in the most experienced and knowledgeable hands.
